Hymenoplasty - Seattle - Radiant Rejuvenation

What Is Hymenoplasty?

Hymenoplasty is a procedure to restore the integrity of a woman's hymenal ring. The operation can be performed using local anesthesia, with minimal post-operative discomfort. The patient can resume normal activities in a couple of days.

Procedure

The hymenal ring can be of varying size, thickness, vascularity and pliability. Actually, about 50% of women do not experience any vaginal bleeding with their initial sexual intercourse. The hymenal ring may be torn or deformed to different degrees with sexual activities. For women who desire to restore the integrity of their hymen ring, hymenoplasty can be performed. Hymenoplasty can be accomplished by meticulously approximating the tears at the hymenal ring, using very fine sutures after refreshing the torn edges. Electric cautery or laser would not be used to avoid causing excess tissue damage from the thermal effect. Blood loss should be very minimal by using the meticulous technique and judicious application of local anesthetic. Usually, it takes about 6 weeks for the hymenal ring to heal, and there is usually very little scarring, if any.

If the hymenal ring remnant has been reduced significantly from activities, an alternate method of submucosal sutering may be needed to tighten the introital mucosal opening. The feasibility for hymenoplasty can be assessed during the complimentary consultation, and then the appropriate surgical recommendation can be advised.
